The design concept takes people through the process of making music. The pedestrians become the audience on the ramp and for the main performance space, this is to open up the school and make the music more accessible. By having a large red ramp it acts as a main wayfinding tool throughout the building that allows the pedestrians to always know where they are going/where to go, while adding a sense of intrigue. The raised closed performance space creates a semi-enclosed open public market underneath that preserves the existing flea/tree market community on the site. By having the market close to the busy street corner, the traversing pedestrians on their desired paths, will keep the market alive and thriving throughout all seasons. This design is all about preserving the existing community that occupies the site, while fostering new communities that will arise with the school of music coming in. The intersections that will happen between these two communities, one existing and the other new, will ensure that this design becomes an icon for the larger Fenway neighborhood.
